Dutch for homeschool

If you homeschool, the songs give you a ready-made, gently sequenced Dutch vocabulary curriculum: 20 themed units, from greetings and numbers through feelings, weather and days of the week to jobs and travel. Every line comes with its English translation, so you don't need to speak Dutch to teach with it.

Is it a good fit? Suitable for homeschooling children aged about 2–8. It's a song-based vocabulary curriculum, not a complete grammar or reading course.

A unit a week (or two)

Each unit has a handful of songs on one theme. Many homeschooling families take one unit a week: listen daily, sing along, then do one hands-on activity with the words. That gives you a structured year of Dutch that fits around your other subjects.

Cross-curricular by design

The themes overlap with early learning topics you're probably covering anyway: numbers, shapes, colors, seasons, the body, animals, jobs. Use the Dutch songs alongside your math or science topic.

Track progress

The app records songs finished and words learned, which helps if you keep a learning log or portfolio.

Good to know about Dutch: Dutch nouns are de-words or het-words. Two shortcuts: every plural takes de, and every little -je word (hondje, vogeltje) takes het.

Quick tips

  • Follow the units in order; vocabulary recurs in later songs.
  • Do one hands-on activity per unit: a color hunt, a shape collage, a family tree in Dutch.
  • Keep a simple word wall with the Dutch words from each unit.
  • Review previous units' songs on Fridays.

Questions parents ask

Is this a complete Dutch curriculum?

It's a vocabulary and listening curriculum built on songs. It doesn't teach grammar rules or reading in Dutch systematically, so older children will eventually want more than songs.

Do I need to speak Dutch?

No. Every line shows its English meaning, and the songs go back and forth between English and Dutch, so you can learn alongside your child.

Sing it in Dutch, free
