Are you ready? Ben je klaar?
Birthday words, we’ll share!	Verjaardagswoordjes delen we!
Birthday! De verjaardag!
Say it once, then say it twice.	Zeg het één keer, en dan twee keer.
I have a birthday today.	Ik ben vandaag jarig.
Ik ben jarig, hoera!	It's my birthday, hooray!
Happy! Blij!
Are you happy? Ben je blij?
Yes, I’m happy, yes, I’m blij!
Smile and wave, kom erbij!
Cake! De taart!
Gift! Het cadeautje!
Happy birthday! Fijne verjaardag!
Blij, blij, zingen maar!	Happy, happy, let's sing!
Cake! De taart!
Gift! Het cadeautje!
Say it in English, say it in Dutch—	Zeg het in het Engels, zeg het in het Nederlands—
We can learn so much!	We kunnen zoveel leren!
Make a wish! Doe een wens!
Blow the candles. Blaas ze uit!
Here’s your gift. Hier is je cadeautje.
Thank you! Dank je wel!
Take a slice. Neem een stukje.
Would you like some cake? Wil je taart?
Yes, please! Ja, graag!
That tastes good! Dat is lekker!
Cake! De taart!
Gift! Het cadeautje!
Happy birthday! Fijne verjaardag!
Blij, blij, zingen maar!	Happy, happy, let's sing!
Cake! De taart!
Gift! Het cadeautje!
Say it in English, say it in Dutch—	Zeg het in het Engels, zeg het in het Nederlands—
We can learn so much!	We kunnen zoveel leren!
Your turn: verjaardag!
My turn: birthday!	Mijn beurt: verjaardag!
Your turn: blij!
My turn: happy!	Mijn beurt: blij!
One more time, together now:	Nog één keer, nu allemaal samen:
De taart, the cake—hoera!
Cake! De taart!
Gift! Het cadeautje!
Happy birthday! Fijne verjaardag!
Blij, blij, zingen maar!	Happy, happy, let's sing!
Cake! De taart!
Gift! Het cadeautje!
Say it in English, say it in Dutch—	Zeg het in het Engels, zeg het in het Nederlands—
We can learn so much!	We kunnen zoveel leren!
Fijne verjaardag! Happy birthday!
Dank je wel—hoera!	Thank you—hooray!

How to use this song with your child

2
Split the parts
Once the song is familiar, you sing the English lines and your child sings the Dutch ones, then swap. It turns listening into speaking.
3
Make it a routine
At 2:02, play it once a day at the same moment for a week. Practise it before the next family birthday and perform it together.
