What Lingokids is

Lingokids started as an app for children learning English and has grown into a broad early-learning app, which the company calls "playlearning". Its App Store listing describes activities across reading and literacy, math, science and technology, music and art, social-emotional learning, history and geography, and physical activity, for ages 2–8. The basic version includes a small rotating selection of free games, and the Lingokids Plus subscription unlocks the full library. Common Sense Media's review notes that while the app began by teaching English to non-native speakers, it now works primarily as an English-language preschool app.

In short: Lingokids is an all-round preschool app delivered in English. It isn't built to teach English-speaking children Spanish, French or another language.

What Language with Songs is

Language with Songs does one thing: it helps children aged 2–8 pick up a second language through original bilingual songs. Each song is call-and-response, a line in English and then in the target language, with karaoke-style lyrics and the English meaning on screen so parents can sing along. There are 134 songs per language in 32 themed units in each of six languages. The first unit (6 songs) is free and Premium unlocks all songs in all languages.

  • Games and interactivity. A large library of games and activities for children who learn by tapping and playing.
  • Shows and characters. Original shows and recurring characters keep children coming back.
  • Native mobile apps. Lingokids installs from the major app stores.

Where Language with Songs is stronger

  • A real second-language curriculum. 134 songs per language in 32 themed units, organized in themes from greetings and numbers to feelings, weather and jobs, in Spanish, French, German, Italian, European Portuguese and Dutch.
  • Built for non-speaking parents. Every line comes with its English meaning. See how to teach your child Spanish when you don't speak it.
  • Lower price for Premium. Free unit; Premium $9.99/mo or $59.99/yr, compared with the Lingokids Plus prices listed in the App Store when we checked. (Lingokids covers far more subjects, so this isn't like-for-like.)
