What Gus on the Go is
Gus on the Go is a series of language apps for young children. Each language is its own app. In the Spanish edition, an animated character guides children through lessons on themes like numbers, colors, shapes, animals, food and clothing, and each lesson unlocks a vocabulary review game. The US App Store listing describes it as designed for ages 0–5, with about 90 Spanish words across 10 lessons, and states it has no ads or in-app purchases.
What Language with Songs is
Language with Songs is a web app of original, bilingual songs for children aged 2–8. Each song is call-and-response: a line in English, then the same line in Spanish, French, German, Italian, European Portuguese or Dutch. Lyrics scroll karaoke-style with the English meaning beside every line, so a parent who doesn't speak the language can sing along. There are 134 songs in each language in 32 themed units, from greetings and numbers to feelings, weather and jobs. The first unit is free; Premium unlocks everything in every language.
Where Gus on the Go is stronger
- Language choice. The developer lists around 30 languages, including many that few children's products offer. If you want a language we don't have, Gus may well have it.
- One-time purchase. Each app is a standalone purchase (or free, depending on your store and region), not a subscription.
- Interactive tapping and games. Children actively touch, match and review words, which some preschoolers find more engaging than listening.
- Native mobile apps. Gus is installed from the app stores and doesn't depend on a browser.
Where Language with Songs is stronger
- Depth of content. 134 songs per language in 32 themed units is a much larger body of material than a 10-lesson vocabulary app, so it can carry a family through months of routines.
- Songs and phrases, not only nouns. Songs carry whole phrases such as greetings, please and thank you, and questions, and children can sing them away from the screen.
- Built for parents to join in. Every line shows its English meaning, which makes it easy to reuse the words at home. See how to teach your child Spanish when you don't speak it.
- All languages in one plan. Premium covers all six languages, which helps if siblings want different ones or you want to switch later.
Which should you choose?
Choose Gus on the Go if your child is a toddler or young preschooler who enjoys tapping games, you want a language outside our six, or you prefer a one-off purchase.
Choose Language with Songs if you want a longer curriculum of songs to listen to and sing as a family (in the car, at bedtime, around the house), especially if you don't speak the language yourself.
Many families use both: an app like Gus for word-recognition games and songs for listening, singing and daily routines. You can try our first unit free to see whether the song format works for your child.
